(K)chaone [ download video ] [ stream ] (02.08.07)
This is an excerpt of a piece composed and performed by Payton MacDonald. Donebestdone then took photos of the marimba, drum kit, and everything else Payton uses and put together a video to accompany the piece. The audio version of this piece will be performed by Payton at Carnegie Hall.

This is a remix of (K)chaone written by donebestdone. All audio was taken from our recording session with Payton and heavily processed to make all of the various bips and bleeps. The video was made from photos of Payton's setup (marimba, drumkit, mixer, pedals, etc).
LAKE EFFECT EP
EXPLAINATION: This EP is made entirely from the source of the NPR radio interview DBD did after "Four Films" won the Milwaukee 24 Hour Film Festival. All of the audio that you hear is heavily (or not) processed sound directly from that interview. Instead of posting the entire EP at once, this project will grow as more tracks are added over the coming weeks and months....

Four films was our submission to the Milwaukee International Film Festival's
24 Hour Film Competition. Teams of eight people or less gathered at the
Milwaukee Art Museum Tuesday morning July 19th for the announcement of
the theme the films were to be based on. The theme for this year's competition
was "confessions". Teams then had 24 hours to complete
a film no longer than 5 minutes in length. Four Films was awarded first
place and will screen at the Milwaukee International Film Festival this
October.

iterations [ download
] [ stream
] (11.30.05)
Iterations is a multi-scale iteration and feedback experiment in sound
and video. Initially, live instruments and found and ambient sound were
recorded using digital media devices and then serially manipulated and
recycled through varying lengths of delay and layering. Much of the music
was composed upon the first generation of tracks, and then, in turn, subjected
to layering, delay, and feedback techniques, after which it was manipulated
again through the same process. Finally, it was broadcast aloud through
the studio to the microphones on camcorders which were part of the video
reiteration process, and played real-time through their corresponding
monitors. Images were initially generated using a form of unstable optical
resonance, basically, a complex feedback chain of dv cams, monitors, and
a pane of glass. Eac h "iteration" was then subjected to a meta-process,
consisting of editing, looping and resending the video back into the system
of optical resonance where it originated. The new manifestation of altered
video was then recorded, and resubjected to the process.

Industrialization finally makes its way fully into the 21st century "nuclear"
family in a bizarre take on genetic engineering and mass-production.
Confusion reigns when a couple is confronted with the decision to live
childless or buy a baby from the one-stop kid shop, Kid Farm. Are
these manufactured babies safe? Are they friendly? What will
the Joneses think? And what's covered in the warranty?

KID
FARM EP (07.14.06)
Our second album to date, the Kid Farm EP features music from and inspired
by our animated short "Kid Farm". The album features music that
was used in the film and created during the making of the
film.
The album also features three tracks that demonstrate how we used the
entire mixdown of Kid Farm (dialogue and sound effects included) for live
audio/video sculptures. The audio from these video pieces have been edited
down for release on this album. The full length video pieces can be found
on our dvds.

ABSTRACTS
AND EXTRACTS (05.07.06)
Our first album, Abstracts and Extracts, is entirely improvised and features
music spanning from our third official installment "weekend two"
all the way up to our most recent installment "1000 whispers".
Some of the tracks on the album are essentially excerpts from much longer
improvised "jam sessions" (the trithorlac of calthicacamore,
beat match 1.43) while others appear just as instantaneously as they were
created. (our dinner conversation with terry riley, space station one)
Meanwhile, some of the tracks are audio from some of our video pieces
that were strong enough to stand on their own (a greater degree of hardware
awareness, drone in C major) while others were created only with music
being the focus.(it scared me then loved me, sifty trumpboneophone, and
M357) Regardless of the music's origin, everything on the album was created
instantaneously with no premeditated composition.

MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC LIBRARY
I HAVEN'T READ A BOOK IN AT LEAST FIVE YEARS [ download video ] [ stream ] (01.04.07)
This piece was composed using only photos of the Minneapolis Public Library. They had a call for artwork submissions for a display
case in the library so DBD decided to throw a lil' something, something together. We got rejected!
MILWAUKEE STREET MILWAUKEE
Milwaukee St , Milwaukee is the name of an event put on by Cedar Block, presenter of odd little art events in Milwaukee. It took place in conjunction with the Saul Leiter street photography exhibit at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The event featured live performances, lectures, dj sets, and photographs from several local artists, including yours truly. Our two hour set consisted of improvised audio/video jams and screenings of through-composed pieces. The audio and video for our set was derived completely from field recordings, video, and photographs of Milwaukee St. Everything you see and hear came from our source recordings of the actual street. The event was clearly a success and we're looking forward to working with Cedar Block again the the future.

smiltown [ download ] [ stream ] [12.01.06] [ MKEstMKE ]
This piece was composed using only audio / video / photography taken of Milwaukee Street. The individual elements from this piece were used as building blocks for the improvised audio/video jams during our set. Some people call it instrumental video and sometimes those people are kick ass.
DBD LONG DISTANCE [v2]
EXPLAINATION: Movies are arranged from short media clips in a pool stored on the internet. The media pool is selected by a participant, and a movie is composed strictly from the clips in the pool by a separate participant. After composition is complete, the movie is rendered, the pool is swapped out with new clips by yet another participant (The number of clips in the pool and their durations stay constant), and the arrangement is re-rendered, substituting the new clips for the old. Both movies are uploaded. The next participant (not the one that selected the pool) arranges a new video piece with the new pool, renders; a separate participant selects yet another pool, and the piece is re-rendered with the newer clips. The third arranger begins with that pool and so on...
